Pedro's property lies on the so-called "barranca" (a terrain drop) and looks over the floodplain of a tributary to the Río Paraná

visit to La Boca, in the south of the Federal District -- the Riachuelo (that has over the last century and a half become the most polluted river in Latin America) alerts visitors ten blocks away with its putrid smell

Martín invited me to see a "villa miseria" (informal settlement, slum) in the outskirts of town.

the community was organizing itself to set up a radio station, and the meeting took place in the courtyard of a recently finished house (as far as structural skeleton and brick infill are concerned)

several community volunteers came from outside
